Vakantiefoto's

(english version? Please scroll down!)

Holiday Pictures

We've been back for a week already now, I always have to get back into rythm. Fortunately the weather was great here too when we returned, so the transition went a bit smoother. And also great to get all the laundry clean and dry in no time, so you don't have to keep climbing the mountain of dirty clothes everytime you enter the garage. Just a tad of ironing and all is back to normal.

I've been behind the computer too long these last few days, not to blog, but to make photoalbum on line. It's the first time I ever did that, I still printed my pictures and stuck them into an album myself. But I got more and more behind. Which is my own fault by the way: it all has to look fantastic, including text, drawings and added clippings... and that all times three, because I make three albums (one for us and each kid to take with them when they leave home). So it takes forever and the photo's from the last two years are still standing here in boxes... not in albums. I will finish that I promise, but that's why I decided to try this online thins for once. Do you have experience with this? Will it look good? I just hope so because it also took a while to put it together, but I liked doing it a lot. So curious what it will look like... have to wait 10 days for it to be ready. You can see a little selection of pictures in this post.

We had a great time. This year we stayed in Umbria on an estate right in the middle of olive trees. It's always very exciting to see the appartment for real for the first time, and fiding out if it'll be pleasant staying there or not. Well it was fantastic: the house was roomy, it was quiet and there were chickens around our chairs every meal. Which the kids liked a lot (and we did too). We had to check our shoes/slippers before we went in the house though to keep the chickenpoo out, but that was just a minor thing ;). The chickens all got names before the second day was over ánd the last week we were asked to chickensit (including hatching chicklets) because one of the owners went on holiday himself. Great fun!

The weather was wonderful too, not too warm anymore and a refreshing breeze that came down the hills. The long trip to get there and back went very smooth as well, no incidents or accidents, traffic jams, the hotels on the way there and back were good too (which wasn't the case last year...awful...but a long and other story). It's like being a a cocoon, no phono, no internet, no daily routine, just having fun, enjoying and taking it all in.

For the first time we had a little swimming pool by the appartments. Other years we were close by the sea, so we went swimming there, but this time we decided to rent a house with pool to see Umbria. The kids had a ball and it was a good choice.

I'm not the type of person to sit by the pool for weeks reading a book, I would get cranky and bored stiff. I have to go see things, lots of things if possible. I have an art background so there's a lot to see in Italy! I have a list with things that I would want to see (not a schedule though, we normally decide the night before what we're going to do the next day) and so the family got "dragged" to towns, museums and lots of churches. I try no to overload them and try to make short when we're in yet another church again.. ("They're all the same mom") and try to make it interesting by telling them things and anecdotes about the stuff we see or let them go on a search to find something by giving them a describtion. They are still in that age fortunately that they don't hate it yet. And of course we diversify the sort of things we're visiting. We've seen a lot this year: medieval towns, beautiful churches and art, waterfall, a cavern, aquaduct, lots of ice cream shops :), boattrip on a lake..to much to mention. We eat great food, like the fresh tagliatelle with truffle I ate in a little trattoria on the top of a mountain...heaven, it was almost a sin to eat something else after that! Lots of italian ice cream, yummy! I made the filled zucchini flowers again and we ate them with the other two families that stayed there by the pool , just lovely!

We were also able to meet our friends near Lucca ánd I've met with my fellow Bread Baking Babe Ilva in Pistoia. I found that really exciting to meet like that in person. She is really lovely, it was a shame that there was so little time to talk. I'm a bit of a slow starter to open up right away I think, my family was driving around in the meantime until it was time to pick me up again and we were on our way to meet our friends later that day, so I couldn't make it any longer. But however short I loved meeting you Ilva, maybe we'll meet in person again some other year, who knows?! And I will never be late for coffee again again :)).

Our friend Donatella gave us another Lucchese speciality pie to taste with amaretti... mmm it tastes so good!! We had a great time.

And now it's back to our daily routine, not long before school starts again. We'll dream back when the photobook arrives and start saving for next year, we hope all stays well to be able to do that. Next post there will be another recipe.... see you next time! Arrivederci!

Groet,
Monica

Prachtige foto's! Kriebels in je buik he, zo'n blind date.
